The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the temporary withdrawal of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates, citing technical issues discovered during an internal review process.

In a statement released on Thursday, August 7, and signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC disclosed that a glitch emerged following the deployment of a new anti-malpractice innovation — paper serialization — used in key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

The new system, which mirrors methods already employed by other national examination bodies, was designed to curb cheating and enhance the integrity of the exam. However, after the release of the results, internal checks reportedly revealed technical bugs that may have affected the accuracy of some candidates’ scores.

“As a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism,” the statement read, “the Council has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches.”

As a result, access to the 2025 WASSCE results has been temporarily suspended on the online result-checker portal. WAEC has assured candidates and the public that the issue will be resolved transparently and swiftly within 24 hours.

“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public,” the Council said. “Candidates who have previously checked their results are advised to re-check after 24 hours from now.”

WAEC reiterated its commitment to excellence, fairness, and transparency in all its assessment procedures and thanked the public for its continued trust and understanding.

The development has stirred widespread concern among students, parents, and educators, as millions of candidates across Nigeria await clarification on their academic outcomes.
