Emeka Enyimba, chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the AMAC Football Coaches Council youth championship, said the event is a football tournament for players under 13 and under 15.
He explained that the championship aims to help young players develop their skills and discover new talent from the grassroots level.
Enyimba added that the tournament started on Monday in Abuja and has been held every year for six years.
He said more than 1,200 young players are taking part this year.
According to him, coaches Bala Nikyu and Mike Attah are responsible for screening the players, while Haruna Illerika from the FCT Football Association has provided some help with access to playing facilities.
Enyimba also mentioned that the championship faces problems like limited venues and funding.
Because of this, teams are required to bring their own first aid kits, and the organizers are looking for sponsors to support the event.
