The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has announced that the ongoing construction of the Renewed Hope City in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, has reached 80 per cent completion and will soon be inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dangiwa disclosed this during an inspection visit to the site on Thursday, August 28, 2025, noting that over 700 housing units under the first phase are ready for commissioning.

“The Lagos Renewed Hope City project is 80 per cent completed, with over 700 housing units under phase one ready for commissioning,” the Minister said.

According to him, the project is part of the administration’s plan to build seven Renewed Hope Cities nationwide — one in each geopolitical zone and the FCT. He revealed that the foundation-laying ceremony for the second phase of the Lagos City will be performed by President Tinubu after the commissioning of the first 700 units.

“When fully completed, the Lagos Renewed Hope City will deliver 2,000 housing units, underscoring the President’s commitment to bridging Nigeria’s housing deficit,” Dangiwa added.

As part of his working visit to Lagos, the Minister also toured the Lekki Free Trade Zone, where he announced government plans to establish a Building Materials Manufacturing Hub within the zone. He explained that six such hubs — one in each geopolitical zone — will reduce housing production costs by promoting local production of building materials.

An investor, he confirmed, has already been secured for the Lagos hub. “The hub will promote local content, curb rising costs of materials, encourage domestic production, and ensure sustainable housing delivery nationwide,” he said.

Dangiwa further noted that Lekki’s intermodal transport infrastructure, including the seaport, airport, rail, and road network, would enhance the effectiveness of the hubs while attracting real estate investments.

The Managing Director of Lekki Worldwide Investments Ltd., Adeniyi Akinlusi, who conducted the Minister around the Free Trade Zone, said the hub would stimulate growth, create jobs, attract investments, and reduce dependence on imports.

At the Renewed Hope City site, the Executive Director of Loans and Mortgage Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Dr. Muhammad Abdul, assured that the houses were designed to be affordable and accessible to workers and cooperative societies, with the bank offering the lowest interest rates in the market.

The Minister also inspected developments at Alaro City within the Lekki Zone, where he commended the management’s sustainable building efforts, describing them as consistent with the government’s housing agenda.
