The National Assembly, through its Acting Clerk, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, has said Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s return to the Senate remains uncertain.
Danzaria explained that the Assembly could not process her resumption because a case challenging her suspension was still pending at the Court of Appeal.
He stated that the Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan on March 6 over alleged gross misconduct and breach of its rules, and that the legal process had not yet been concluded.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had written to inform the Clerk that her six-month suspension expired on September 4 and requested to resume her legislative duties, access her office, and engage her staff from that date.
The matter concerns her seat in the Nigerian Senate.
Danzaria, in his reply, said the Senate would act only after the court delivers its judgment and assured her that she would receive formal notification once the matter is resolved.
