The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), through the Apapa Port Complex Manager, Mr. Debo Lawal, said the authority had warned four terminal operators over pollution at the Apapa Port.
He explained that the warnings were meant to enforce environmental sustainability, keep terminals clean, and ensure compliance with lease agreements and international best practices.
Lawal stated that he disclosed on Tuesday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
The interview took place in Lagos at the Apapa Port Complex.
He added that the authority issued warning letters, carried out physical inspections to verify complaints, and directed factories to adjust funnels and install combustion controls.
According to him, deadlines were attached to the directives before sanctions would be applied, while port security had also been reinforced through cooperation with the port police and the provision of additional patrol boats.
