Afriland Towers fire: United Capital names, mourns loss of six employees

United Capital Plc has been thrown into mourning following the death of six staff members in the tragic fire outbreak at Afriland Towers, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

In a statement released on Monday via its official X page, the company identified the deceased as Jesutoni Shodipo, Kehinde Adeoye, Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke, Olumide Oyefodunrin, Opeyemi Oloyede, and Rebecca Adenuga.

Describing the loss as “immeasurable,” the management said the late employees were not just colleagues but part of the United Capital family.

“It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues, following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers. Their painful loss leaves an immeasurable void,” the company stated.

United Capital also expressed condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the deceased, pledging continued support during this difficult period. It added that arrangements are underway for a memorial service to honour the lives of the departed staff.

The company further urged unity and solidarity among its workforce, while commending emergency services and first responders for their efforts during the incident.

The fire, which engulfed the high-rise building housing offices of the United Bank for Africa, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and United Capital Plc, claimed at least 10 lives, including four FIRS personnel who were on duty.
