What was meant to be a joyful reunion turned into tragedy after a 60-year-old American woman, Jacqueline Bolling Elton, died while visiting her Nigerian boyfriend in Warri, Delta State.

Elton had traveled thousands of miles to be with her 39-year-old partner, Alawode Olaide, but her visit ended in heartbreak. According to reports, she suddenly fell ill on Monday, September 29, and was rushed to a private hospital in Otokutu around 3:00 p.m. Doctors later referred her to the Central Hospital, Warri, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, where many had previously admired the couple’s relationship as proof that love can bridge distance and age. Her untimely death, however, has left many questions unanswered.

Police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Olaide, her boyfriend, has been detained for questioning, while Elton’s body has been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
