Lagos Taskforce raids black spots, nab 124 drug peddlers, other suspects

A total of 124 suspects were arrested in an operation carried out in parts of Lagos metropolis on Saturday by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce).

The operation follows the directive of the Lagos State commissioner of Police, CP Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, asking formations and tactical teams in the state to reinvigorate and sustain far reaching tactics in crime detection and prevention.

Leading his men for the night operation, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Akerele Adetayo, firstly, acted on a credible intelligence received on the illicit drug dealings going on at a black spot in Amikanle area of Agbado-Oke-Odo LCDA, Alimosho.

A sting operation was launched at the detailed black spot, with many suspects arrested, while, hibernating and carrying out illicit drug deals.

As planned, the Taskforce helmsman, escalated the crime fighting exercise into a visibility patrol across town, terminating at NERD C road by Afrika Shrine, in Alausa Central Business District (CBD), where street traders and drug peddlers constituting large scale nuisance, were sacked and many other suspects arrested, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in the night raid to 124.

Exhibits recovered from the Operation include, several bottles of codeine syrup, packs of Canadian loud, many wraps of Colorado, prescription tablets, substances suspected to be Indian hemp and wares seized from illegal street vendors.

CSP Akerele, has said after screening the suspects at the headquarters of the agency that, suspects will be charged to court, while, other seizures will be forfeited to the state government in line with extant laws guiding the agency’s activities.
