The Lagos State Safety Commission has distanced itself from a woman identified as Mariam Bunmi, who appeared in a viral video claiming to be a staff member of the Commission and boasting of collecting bribes from unsuspecting citizens in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the Commission declared that Mariam Bunmi is neither an employee nor has ever been associated with the agency in any capacity.

“The Commission hereby dissociates itself completely from this individual and her alleged actions. We wish to categorically state that Mariam Bunmi is not and has never been an employee of the Lagos State Safety Commission. She is unknown to the Commission in any capacity,” the statement read.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and integrity, the Commission emphasized that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, extortion, and all forms of unethical behaviour.

The agency further urged members of the public to disregard the claims made in the video and to remain vigilant against fraudsters posing as officials of the Safety Commission.

It also cautioned media organizations, including the platform Lagos Reporter, which circulated the video, to verify all information and confirm official identities before publication.

“For clarification or verification, members of the public are encouraged not to pay a dime to anyone parading as officials of the Lagos State Safety Commission but rather apprehend and report such uncharitable acts to the Commission through its official channels,” the statement concluded.
