The Lagos State Government has announced the phased closure of the Oworonshoki/Third Axial Bridge for emergency repairs, starting Tuesday, May 6, and lasting through Tuesday, September 23, 2025 — a total of 110 days.
According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repair project will be executed in eight phases across both lanes of the bridge.
Phases 1–4 (May 6–July 14): Repairs inbound to the Third Mainland Bridge.
Phases 5–8 (July 15–September 23): Repairs on the outbound section.
Traffic Diversion and Alternative Routes:
During each phase, motorists will be diverted approximately 50 meters before the work zone and redirected back to the main route afterward.
For commuters heading to Oshodi or Victoria Island via Oworonshoki:
Use the Ojota Slip Road, continue on Ikorodu Road, then turn right at Anthony (Taxi Park ramp) to reach Oshodi.
From Mowe or Ikeja, reroute via Ojota and Funsho Williams Avenue to connect with Eko Bridge to Victoria Island.
From Ikeja to Outer Marina, use Maryland to Funsho Williams Avenue.
To reach Oshodi from Ikeja, take Ikorodu Road, turn at Anthony, and continue as directed.
When outbound repairs begin on July 15:
Motorists heading toward the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway via Oworonshoki will be diverted similarly.
Travelers from Victoria Island to Ketu, Alapere, or Ikorodu should use Eko Bridge and continue on Funsho Williams Avenue via Ikorodu Road.
Those heading to Mowe from the Island can use Eko Bridge, Funsho Williams Avenue, and proceed via Abiola Garden Ramp.
Traffic Management: Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed across affected routes to manage flow and minimize disruptions.
The government has appealed for public cooperation and patience, emphasizing that the partial closure is essential for the structural maintenance of the bridge’s expansion joints, ensuring long-term safety.
