Again, Lagos Taskforce cracks down on illicit drug trade in Gowon estate, arrests 20

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has apprehended 20 suspected drug peddlers in a targeted enforcement operation at Gowon Estate and Egbeda.

The operation, conducted on Tuesday, focused on notorious areas such as:
– 31 Road Intersection: A known hotspot for illicit activities
– Wole Omo-Osho Street: Another area where suspects were found peddling drugs
– Idoani Street: Makeshift stalls here were dismantled after intelligence revealed they served as hideouts for drug sales and consumption
– Egbeda Market Area: Located along Egbeda-Idimu Road, this area was also targeted in the operation

Key Findings and Recoveries
– Illicit Substances: Various drugs were recovered during the operation
– Cash Proceeds: Money obtained from the illegal trade was seized by the taskforce

Government’s Stance
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, commended the operation, stating that these criminal hideouts will no longer be tolerated in Lagos State.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to reclaim public spaces and ensure residents’ safety, warning that all suspects will be prosecuted.
