In a gesture to boost support for the Super Eagles, the Akwa Ibom government has announced that it will provide free match tickets for the team’s 2026 World Cup qualification match against Zimbabwe.

The game is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, the state capital.

According to Paul Bassey, the state’s sports commissioner, Governor Umo Eno has purchased all 30,000 tickets for the match, which will be distributed to fans at designated venues across the state.

These venues include all radio stations, De Venus Bar and Restaurant along Stadium Road, Uyo Township Stadium, Plaza Management Committee Office, and all previous sales agents and centers.

This move comes at a critical time for the Super Eagles, who are facing a challenging World Cup qualification campaign.

The team currently sits fourth in their qualification group with six points from five matches, and a win against Zimbabwe is crucial to boost their chances of qualification.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had earlier promised to give out Super Eagles jerseys to the first 500 fans to get tickets for the game. With the Akwa Ibom government’s offer of free match tickets, fans are expected to turn out in large numbers to support the team.

The match against Zimbabwe is a must-win for the Super Eagles, and the team will be counting on the support of their fans to secure a crucial victory.
