A tragic incident has rocked the Adamo community in Ikorodu, Lagos, after a professional boxer, identified by residents as Bintin, allegedly punched a local carpenter, known as Yellow, to death during a quarrel over a damaged football.

Witnesses said the fight broke out after Yellow accidentally punctured a football belonging to the boxer’s young son. The boy’s mother reportedly told her husband about the incident, prompting him to storm home and confront the carpenter.

What began as a verbal exchange soon spiralled out of control, forcing the community head, the Baale, to step in. The Baale reportedly ordered Yellow to replace the damaged ball, which he agreed to do.

However, as Yellow went to purchase a new ball, the boxer—still fuming—allegedly attacked him, landing a single heavy punch to his forehead. The carpenter collapsed instantly and was rushed to Agbowa General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Residents described Bintin as a hot-tempered man with a history of aggression. “He’s always been quick to anger. Everyone around here knows his violent streak,” a community member said.

Following the incident, the boxer surrendered himself at the Imota Police Station, where he was detained.

Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, dismissed rumours that the suspect had been released. “Divisional Police Officers do not have the authority to release a murder suspect,” Adebisi said. “The suspect remains in custody, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.”

The Baale of the community confirmed that the deceased would be buried according to Islamic rites and that calm had been restored to the area.
