The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has confirmed that three persons lost their lives while six others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday morning along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Mr. Adekunle Ajibade, the South-West Area Commander of TRACE, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the tragic incident happened at about 7:45 a.m. in the Sango-Ota area.

According to Ajibade, the accident involved five vehicles and was caused by a cement truck with no registration number, which was reportedly speeding towards the toll-gate when it suffered a brake failure. The out-of-control truck rammed into four other vehicles, leading to multiple casualties.

He stated that the six survivors sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Ifo General Hospital, where the corpses of the deceased have also been deposited.

Ajibade urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey and cautioned drivers against excessive speeding and reckless driving, noting that such practices often result in avoidable tragedies.

“The affected vehicles have since been cleared from the expressway to facilitate the free flow of traffic in the area,” he added.
