The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has distanced itself from the reported demolition of a property allegedly owned by the brother of Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

The development stirred public attention after Obi condemned the action, describing it as further proof that Nigeria has become a “lawless country.” The demolished structure was said to have stood for 15 years before the incident.

Responding to the allegations, LASBCA spokesperson Adu Ademuyiwa stated that the agency was not involved in the demolition exercise. “It’s not my agency (LASBCA) that is responsible for that,” he clarified.

Meanwhile, Wale Ajetunmobi, Special Assistant on Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, advised Obi to formally report the matter to law enforcement authorities. “Peter Obi should report the matter to the police. They’ll help him find the people who ordered the building’s demolition,” Ajetunmobi said.

He also defended the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stating that the commissioner has no authority to issue court orders — a claim Obi reportedly referenced. “A commissioner who doesn’t issue court orders shouldn’t be questioned,” he added. “Whatever game Peter Obi wants to play, first things first – who is responsible for the demolition has to be well stated.”
