Urges Nigerians to Be Vigilant Against Subversive Elements

The Coalition for Good Governance (CGG), an alliance of over 80 civil society organizations, self-determination and public interest groups, has condemned what it described as “desperate attempts by failed politicians and subversive elements” to politicize the ongoing trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement jointly signed by its leaders, including Nelson Ekujumi, Razaq Olokoba, Razaq Oladosu, Ajayi Popoola, Uche Nnadozie, and Shola Justice Omolola, the coalition described such attempts as “irresponsible, inciting, and satanic.”

According to the group, some politicians who have consistently been rejected at the polls now seek to exploit the judicial process for political gains under the guise of “freedom fighting.”

“It’s an indisputable fact that Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the terrorist group IPOB, is in court on terrorism charges and has been ordered by the court to open his defence after the prosecution closed its case. If these elements are not agents of destabilization, the right thing to do is to respect the rule of law rather than attempt to incite Nigerians into chaos,” the statement read in part.

The coalition reminded Nigerians of the violence and destruction allegedly perpetrated by IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), particularly in the South-East region, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives and damage to public and private property.

Despite these acts, the group noted that the Nigerian government has continued to uphold the rule of law by subjecting Kanu’s case to judicial scrutiny rather than extrajudicial measures.

Commending the Federal Government for adhering to due process, the CGG warned against any campaign of blackmail aimed at halting the trial, describing such a move as “an injustice to the memory of innocent Nigerians and security operatives who have lost their lives to IPOB’s violence.”

The coalition also urged Nigerians to shun any planned protests or rallies orchestrated to disrupt public peace under the pretext of supporting Kanu, warning that such activities are designed to destabilize the country.

“While we respect the constitutional right to peaceful protest, we will not sit back and allow agents of destabilization to mislead Nigerians and endanger national security,” the coalition added.

The statement concluded with a call for vigilance and patriotism, urging citizens to remain steadfast in their support for democracy, justice, and national stability.

“Nigerians must not allow themselves to become pawns in the hands of failed politicians who exploit every situation for selfish political gain,” the coalition said.
