Grammy-nominated singer Davido has spoken out against the negative stereotypes often associated with Nigeria, asserting that violence and crime are global issues, not unique to his home country.
In a recent interview with French-speaking CKO channel, the Afrobeats star criticised international media for disproportionately highlighting Nigeria’s problems while ignoring its successes, luxury, and cultural vibrancy.
“Everywhere is dangerous! The Congo is dangerous, Benin is dangerous, Paris is dangerous… Even in Atlanta, you could get shot. So that makes it dangerous. Heck, the world is dangerous, and it’s God that protects us,” Davido said.
He urged people to visit Nigeria, especially Lagos, to see the reality for themselves rather than relying on secondhand information or sensationalized portrayals.
“You heard that it’s dangerous; that’s why you have to visit. You can’t keep hearing. That’s what they do — they show the bad parts and not the Bugattis. They don’t show the Ferraris, Rolls Royces, and private jets.”
Davido acknowledged that Nigeria has its challenges but stressed that these issues are not exclusive to the country. He also praised Lagos for having what he calls the “best nightlife in the world.”
