Residents of some streets in Shomolu Local Government Area are complaining following road construction work that appears to have been abandoned. They are now calling on the authorities to come to their assistance.
The roads which are under the council led by Hon Abdulhameed Salawu have brought untold hardship to the people. It has raised safety concerns in the community. These civil works have been ongoing in some streets for quite a while now – leaving residents in an uncomfortable situation.
One of the streets under construction is Emmanuel street, a road linking Shomolu to Ijebutedo-Palmgroove. The project is geared towards the repair of the gullies, craters and potholes on the road, as well as widen the drainage systems. This road links Olorunshogo – which is similarly impassable are currently inaccessible by vehicles and even the pedestrians have to watch their steps while skating through the uneven path.
Residents and other users of these roads have been in distress as the construction seem to be taking a slow pace and currently, abandoned with dumps of sand and scrapes of tar preventing even Okada from operating.
“The government has been working on this road since February”, a resident said while responding to EveryDayLagos enquiry. “Although it a continuation of what they started years back, they seem to be taking their time on it which is really affecting us”, another added.
The ongoing but delayed development has left the streets rowdy and muddy during this rainy season. However, the sight of some equipment utilized in construction around the area leaves residents with some disguised hope that something may still happen in a not too distant future.
