In a shocking turn of events, the Lagos State Police Command has recovered most of the stolen goods and cash from three rogue policemen accused of extorting a 26-year-old phone dealer, Hamzat Uthman.
The officers, identified as Samson Adah, Ahmed Akhiyme, and “Odogwu,” allegedly stole N2,695,000 and several iPhones from Uthman.
The Ordeal
Uthman’s nightmare began when he sold an iPhone 11 Pro Max to a customer, Kolawole Salaudeen, on behalf of his colleague, Yissha Alabi.
The policemen claimed the phone was stolen and demanded a hefty bribe to release Uthman and Alabi. The drama unfolded at the police station, where the officers allegedly took Uthman’s other iPhones and forced him to write a statement surrendering the phones.
The Twist
In a surprising twist, the policemen knew the alleged owner of the stolen phone, Hope Chikaodiri, and instead of arresting him, they went to a lounge with Chikaodiri and Alabi. This raised suspicions about the officers’ motives and led to Uthman’s accusations of extortion.
The Aftermath
The Lagos State Police Command has taken swift action, recovering most of the stolen goods and cash. Uthman expressed gratitude to the police commissioner, DCP Fatai Tijani, and the PPRO for their intervention.
However, one iPhone 11 Pro Max remains with the police as evidence, and Uthman is still seeking justice.
What’s Next?
The case highlights concerns about police misconduct and corruption. The Lagos State Police Command’s response will be closely watched, and the outcome may set a precedent for similar cases. As Uthman seeks justice, many will be watching to see if the system delivers.
