Severe flooding destroyed lives and farmlands in Enohia Itim, a community in the Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The flood happened on August 1 after heavy rain.

The flooding was made worse by blocked drains and people throwing waste in the wrong places.

The Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), led by Executive Secretary Mr. Clement Ovuoba, said they received news about the flood on Sunday and will soon carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the damage.

They plan to send a report to the National Emergency Management Agency after their assessment.

Mr. Francis Abani-Okpani, the Councilor representing Itim at the Afikpo Legislative Council, confirmed that the flood destroyed farmlands and caused loss of lives.

Mr. Timothy Nwachi, Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Council, described the flood as tragic and promised that the council will work with both the federal and state governments to provide help and relief to the families affected.

The council also warned residents living in flood-prone areas to take care by following climate change precautions.

They advised people to avoid blocking drains and to stop improper disposal of refuse to keep the environment safe and prevent future floods.
