The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 15 suspected internet fraudsters during a sting operation at a high-end residential estate in Lekki, Lagos State.

The raid, carried out by operatives from the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 on Friday, April 25, targeted Maple and Jand Court within the Royal Pine Estate on Orchid Road. The arrests followed actionable intelligence linking the suspects to a web of internet-related fraudulent activities.

Upon arrest, operatives recovered several incriminating items, including multiple smartphones, laptop computers, and luxury vehicles believed to be proceeds of cybercrime.

The EFCC disclosed that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court once inquiries are complete.

Internet fraud—commonly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo” in Nigeria—remains a pressing challenge for law enforcement, with many young individuals drawn into sophisticated scams targeting both local and foreign victims.

Lekki, renowned for its upscale lifestyle and lavish estates, has increasingly become a hub for such illicit activities. The EFCC has repeatedly carried out successful operations in the area, reinforcing its commitment to rooting out cybercrime.

In addition to enforcement, the Commission continues to educate Nigerian youths on the dangers of internet fraud through sensitization programs across schools and communities.

Legal experts have lauded the EFCC’s efforts, emphasizing that consistent crackdowns are crucial to deterring cybercriminals and restoring Nigeria’s global image.

“The message is clear: crime does not pay,” the EFCC stated, urging youths to pursue legitimate careers and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.

The suspects will face the full weight of the law, with the EFCC assuring the public that no stone will be left unturned in bringing cybercriminals to justice.
