The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight secondary school students suspected of engaging in cult activities at Ifo High School, near Lagos state.
The students, whose names have not been disclosed, were reportedly involved in cult-related activities, causing disturbances and extorting valuables from fellow students.
According to CSP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s Spokesperson, the arrest was made possible through collaboration with the school authorities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the students are members of the Future Guys cult group and were allegedly initiated by two senior students.
The Police have commenced a thorough investigation to determine the extent of cult activities in the school and prevent further occurrences.
The students will face thorough screening and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department upon the conclusion of the preliminary investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed that the students be brought before him for further interviews, where referrals for counseling and mentoring will be organized.
Ogunlowo reiterated his commitment to maintaining law and order in Ogun, urging parents, teachers, and community leaders to collaborate in eradicating cultism from schools.
