The Chairman of the Alimosho Local Government Area, Mr. Jelili Sulaimon, who was suspended indefinitely for non-compliance, defiance, and an unyielding attitude toward the Lagos State House of Assembly, has refuted the claim in a viral video seen by EveryDayLagos.
In the clip, the council boss was seen addressing an unidentified crowed and declaring the House’s decision null and void.
In his defense against the resolution to suspend him, Sulaimon revealed that he was asked to hand over the collection of Iyana Ipaja market levies to a notorious land grabber, Abiodun Ishola Ejigbadero.
The shocking video disclosed that his refusal to please the lawmakers by directing him to hand over Iyana Ipaja to Ejigbadero caused the rift. He backed up his claim with a written document supporting the directive.
EveryDayLagos understands the legislature does not give directive to the executive and insist it must be obeyed. On the contrary, it either directs the governor to caution the chairman or their directive is seen as a mere resolution.
The council leader also mentioned that the House gave the directive based on the claim that Mr. Ejigbadero is the rightful owner of lands stretching from Iyana Ipaja to Idimu – a distance of more than five kilometres.
He explained that his refusal to comply with the directive led to his indefinite suspension.
Meanwhile, a resident who commented on the faceoff stated that Ejigbadero has hindered the development of Alimosho, particularly in the affected area areas. The resident who did not reveal his name highlighted Ejigbadero’s unscrupulous actions concerning landed properties, which have stunted the growth of housing and property purchases in the area. Even when land is eventually purchased, land grabbing thugs better known as “Omo Onile” will come and take over the land, exploiting the new owners under Ejigbadero’s name.
Both market traders and residents are openly opposed to the policy and are in support of full autonomy for the Local Government.
