The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, also known as K1 De Ultimate or KWAM 1, had alcohol in his possession during a recent altercation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, Obiageli Orah, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday while addressing the incident involving the musician and a ValueJet Airlines flight.
According to FAAN, the episode occurred on the morning of Monday, August 5, 2025, during boarding procedures for a ValueJet flight (VK 201) from Abuja to Lagos.
Preliminary investigations revealed that K1 attempted to carry an unidentified liquid substance—later identified as alcohol—onboard, in violation of international aviation security regulations. AVSEC personnel and the flight captain reportedly warned him repeatedly that liquids exceeding 100ml are not allowed unless medically necessary and properly declared, as stipulated by Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and ICAO Annex 17.
Despite the warnings, the musician allegedly declined to comply and subsequently poured the contents of the flask on an airline security officer. The flight captain also intervened but reportedly met with similar resistance.
Following the completion of passenger boarding, the aircraft doors were instructed to be shut. However, K1 De Ultimate allegedly moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area, prompting the intervention of AVSEC’s crime unit. He was escorted away for further investigation and later released.
FAAN emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on any behavior that threatens the safety and operational integrity of Nigeria’s airports.
“The Authority remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and regulatory compliance across all Nigerian airports. This matter is still under investigation, and appropriate actions will be taken against anyone found culpable,” the statement read.
FAAN assured the public that all necessary measures are in place to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and airport personnel at all times.
