A 36-year-old Trader, Ijeoma Okolie, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly biting off a colleague’s finger during a quarrel at Computer Village Market, Ikeja in Lagos State.
Okolie was facing a one-count charge of causing grievous harm, contrary to Section 245 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the incident occurred on July 9 at about 12.30 p.m during an altercation between the defendant and one Rosita Nwachukwu.
According to her, the defendant bit Rosita on her finger, cutting it off, which left the complainant with permanent bodily deformity.
Ikhayere said the offence was reported at the Ikeja Police Division, while the defendant was arrested and charged to court.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Lateef Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Owolabi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
