The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest and detention of Martins Innocent Otse following multiple petitions alleging his involvement in serious financial crimes.

In a statement issued by the Commission, the EFCC revealed that Otse, better known in the public as VeryDarkMan had repeatedly ignored formal invitations to appear before investigators, prompting his arrest. According to the EFCC, the allegations against Otse are grave and demand thorough investigation.

While acknowledging that Otse has publicly criticized the Commission’s operations, the EFCC emphasized that his arrest was strictly based on the petitions and not influenced by his remarks.

“The EFCC has a lawful right to hold Otse in custody like any other suspect being investigated by the Commission,” the statement noted. “The appropriate Remand Order was obtained in this regard.”

Otse has since been offered administrative bail and is expected to be released once all bail conditions are fulfilled.

The Commission also addressed public concerns over the arrest, urging Nigerians to allow the EFCC to carry out its mandate without undue speculation or interference. It assured the public that once investigations are concluded, charges will be formally filed.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to fighting economic and financial crimes without fear or favour.
