In a renewed push for transparency and national security, the Nigeria Police Force has reactivated its Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) system, now accessible through a secure digital platform: www.possap.gov.ng. This directive was approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun.

The move comes in response to public concerns over harassment of motorists with factory-fitted tinted windows and aims to standardize usage while enhancing police visibility and law enforcement efforts.

Addressing Security Threats

The misuse of tinted vehicles has been linked to crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, “one-chance” scams, and other forms of organized banditry. The reactivation of the TGP system will aid the police in differentiating legitimate users—such as individuals with certified medical needs or security personnel—from those with criminal intent.

Streamlined, Technology-Driven Process

Applicants will now undergo a digital registration process that includes:

Verification via National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN)

Biometric capture and background checks

Issuance of QR-coded digital permits

72-hour processing timeline

30-Day Grace Period Begins May 1st

To ensure smooth adoption, a 30-day grace period has been declared, effective May 1, 2025. Enforcement of the permit requirement will begin at the end of this period. The Force has issued a strong warning that officers engaging in misconduct—such as extortion or harassment—will face disciplinary sanctions.

IGP Calls for Public Support

IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to a citizen-focused and technologically enhanced policing strategy. He urged Nigerians to embrace the initiative, describing it as a critical step toward building safer roads and a more secure nation.
