The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) has said a flood forced 545 families to leave their homes and damaged 171 houses in the Kaduna North Local Government Area.
Usman Mazadu, Executive Secretary of KADSEMA, explained that two days of heavy rainfall between September 4 and September 5 caused rivers to overflow, submerging homes and destroying property.
He identified Kigo Road Community as the worst-hit area, with 69 buildings and 276 families affected.
Other communities impacted included Rifin Guza, Shooting Range, Kabala Costain, Bashama Road in Tudun Wada, Ungwan Rimi, and Malali G.R.A.
Mazadu said KADSEMA and its partners, including NEMA, Christian Aid, NSCDC, Nigeria Red Cross, and the Kaduna State Fire and Public Safety Agency, assessed the destruction, evacuated residents, documented affected households, and provided shelter, food, and medical care.
He added that the agency visited a displacement camp at Girls Primary School, Kigo, and began plans to help families rebuild and reduce future flood risks.
