In an interview held on Thursday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Chief Abia Onyike, a former Commissioner for Information and Deputy National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, and Chief Bekee Orji, a prominent community elder, stated that the Igbo people still needed Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in the Nigerian Senate ahead of the 2027 elections.
They explained that Senator Kalu had demonstrated significant political experience and legislative impact.
According to them, his contributions included the passage of the ₦500 billion South-East Development Commission bill and the establishment of a Federal University in Item, Abia State.
It was noted that his media ventures, such as Daily Sun and New Telegraph, had created thousands of jobs and amplified Igbo visibility in the national media.
The duo emphasized that Kalu had made use of his Senate position since 2019, leveraging his relationship with President Bola Tinubu to attract developmental projects to the Southeast.
They maintained that his continued presence in the Senate would be of immense benefit to the region
