The Lagos State Government has launched a major clean-up and enforcement operation to reclaim public spaces at Under Bridge, Oja Oba, and Adeniji Adele in Lagos Island.

The initiative aims to restore order, ensure free movement, and maintain environmental standards across the metropolis.

According to the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the government has commenced dismantling illegal structures and removing obstructions to free movement and urban order. Wahab emphasized the administration’s commitment to tackling environmental nuisances and urged residents to play their part in keeping the city clean and organized.

Key Areas Targeted:

– Under Bridge: Authorities cleared illegal wooden compartments used as makeshift warehouses and living spaces.
– Oja Oba and Adeniji Adele: Illegal structures and obstructions were removed to ensure free movement and urban order.

Previous Clearance Efforts:

– Cele/Itire Bridge: Illegal settlements were cleared in early 2025.
– Eko Bridge: 54 shanties were dismantled, and 84 occupants relocated in November 2024.
– Dolphin Estate Bridge: 86 makeshift apartments were cleared in May 2024.

The government plans to partner with the private sector to repurpose reclaimed spaces for public use, preventing reoccupation and promoting a cleaner, safer, and more organized Lagos.
