The Lagos State Government has intervened in the case of a young woman who reportedly took her belongings to the Panti Police Station in Yaba, saying she wanted to rent an apartment there due to the excessive heat.

The unusual incident, which first went viral on social media, began when the lady booked an Uber from Lekki to Panti, reportedly to “file a case” against the sun for being too hot. The driver, who charged ₦15,000 for the trip, later expressed shock at her unusual complaint.

According to a social media user who shared the story on X, the lady — described as tall, well-dressed, and composed — told police officers she was tired of the heat and wanted to report the sun. Days later, she returned to the same station with several bags of clothes, insisting she wanted to rent accommodation within the police premises.

“She slept outside all through without going home,” the user wrote, adding that police officers and drivers had been inconvenienced by her repeated trips between Ajah and Panti. “A police officer even paid for her ride home, but she booked another trip and came back.”

Amid growing public concern for her wellbeing, the Lagos State Government stepped in. Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the intervention on X (formerly Twitter).

“UPDATE: The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development under the leadership of Hon. @Mo_ogunlende have gone to Panti to rescue the young lady and conduct necessary findings on her case,” Gawat posted.

The ministry is expected to assess her mental health condition and provide appropriate social and medical support.

The incident has drawn widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for greater attention to mental health awareness and access to support services, especially for young people in urban areas.
