The Anambra State government has imposed a one-month suspension on Blossom Fount School in Awka over allegations of unethical conduct during a student leadership election.

The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh. According to the commissioner, the school allegedly demanded a payment of N5,000 from each primary school pupil aspiring to become head prefect.

Prof Chuma-Udeh condemned the act, describing it as a gross attempt to “sell the psyche of the children to the highest bidder from the cradle.” She stressed that such practices have no place in the education system under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

An investigation is currently underway to assess the school’s broader management practices. Further disciplinary measures may be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
