The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to commercial bus operators, particularly drivers of mini buses, to adhere strictly to traffic regulations or face the consequences.
The warning comes as part of the government’s efforts to restore orderliness on Lagos roadways and ensure smooth traffic flow.
According to Hon. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, all commercial bus operators must desist from using unauthorized routes and refrain from parking and loading activities on public roadways.
Giwa emphasized that LASTMA operatives have been mandated to enforce compliance with traffic laws and apprehend defaulters.
Key Directives:
– Authorized Routes Only: Commercial bus operators must stick to designated routes to avoid sanctions.
– Designated Bus Stops and Terminals: All commercial operators must restrict their operations to designated areas to prevent traffic congestion and risks to other road users.
– No More Illegal Parking: Indiscriminate occupation of public roadways for parking and loading activities will no longer be tolerated.
LASTMA encourages all road users, especially commercial transport operators, to cooperate with traffic enforcement authorities and foster a culture of responsible driving. The agency remains committed to creating a secure, structured, and efficient transportation system for all Lagos residents.
