Many old students of Iroko Community Grammar School, Iroko, in the Ibadan area of Oyo State, are currently in high spirits as they are set to have a special reunion and thanksgiving programme on Saturday, December 14, at the iconic alma mater.
As initiated by the Iroko Community Grammar School Old Students Association, they will gather for the maiden Thanksgiving and Annual Lecture while there will also be launching of a N100m development fund.
The fund, according to the President of the ICGS Old Students Association, Ambassador Akinremi Bolaji, is targeted at its projects that include the building of a skills acquisition centre.
The school has produced many prominent professionals and other generally successful ones, with Bolaji, who is also a pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, being a Director at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A statement from the association adds that there will also be presentation of awards to personalities who have contributed to the development of the school located on the old Ibadan-Oyo Road.
Here is the list released by a nomination committee headed by Mr Kolawole Oke, with Barrister Akeem Aponmode as Secretary:
ANNOUNCEMENT OF NOMINEES FOR AWARDS BY ICGS OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION*
The ICGS Award Nomination Committee wishes to announce the names of the following nominees for recognition at the maiden ICGS Award ceremony:
1. Chief Ayoade Ajibola. He founded the school and named it “Ibadan North Grammar School” after which the Government took it from him for the community and then renamed it Iroko Community Grammar School.
2. Oniroko Baale Oyewole. He was one of the members Governing Council of the School.
3. Chief Oladepo Egunjobi was a member of the Governing Council.
4. Pa John Abioye, a member of the Governing Council.
5. Pa Akinlade Akinwusi, a member of the Governing Council.
6. Pastor Adetunji, a member of the Governing Council.
7. Pa Owolabi, a member of the Governing Council
8. Chief Ayo Akinyemi, the First Principal of the school: 1966-1969.
9. Mr Adewumi, the first Vice Principal and the first house master.
10. Late Prof Adebusuyi took over from Mr. Adewumi and he was very dedicated and hard working.
11. Mr Adio, the first School Bursar:- . Truthful and dedicated.
12.Madam Comfort Subuola Adeleke, first Matron;
13. Miss Abiodun Kaka, the first female teacher and house mistress.
14. Late Tunde Akinwusi, the first Senior Prefect.
15. Olaide Bello Ekun, the first Senior Girl.
