Yet-to-be identified gunmen have killed 54-year-old Prophet Yomi Adetula at a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Idiroko, Ogun State.

The attack took place around 10:30 a.m. during Sunday service at the CCC Eagle Parish along Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko. Witnesses said three armed men entered the church, targeted Adetula, and shot him before using an axe to mutilate his head.

Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that officers arrived at the scene to find Adetula’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, his white garment stained red. According to her, initial investigations revealed that the attackers used a long double-barrel gun before ensuring his death with an axe.

Adetula’s body has been taken to the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro, while police have launched a manhunt for the killers, who reportedly fled towards the border. Odutola assured that normalcy had been restored in the area and that more details would emerge as the investigation progresses.

A friend of the deceased and Ogun based human rights lawyer, Olumiyiwa Bankole, had revealed that the slain pastor was recently released from the Nigeria Custom Service detention facility in Abuja following his intervention.
