Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has directed the immediate withdrawal of Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel from private individuals nationwide.
The directive aims to refocus the PMF on its core mandate of responding to riots, emergencies, and violent threats.
Reforms Unveiled
Egbetokun announced a series of reforms, including quarterly ethics and professionalism training, and the mandatory standby of fully equipped units in all squadrons.
Commanders will be held accountable for their personnel’s conduct, and the IGP emphasized the importance of proactive leadership through inspections, training, and mentorship.
Goal of Reforms
The reforms aim to restore discipline, uphold human rights, and raise operational standards in line with global best practices. Egbetokun reaffirmed the force’s commitment to restoring the PMF to its designated role as a “disciplined and dependable tactical arm.”
