The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched the online pre-registration of voters, signaling the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a post on X, the Commission urged eligible Nigerians to begin their registration through the portal: www.cvr.inecnigeria.org. The online process allows prospective voters to submit personal details—including names, dates of birth, residential addresses, and preferred polling units—and to schedule an appointment for in-person completion.
Beyond new registrations, the platform also enables applicants to request transfers of voting locations, replacements of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and corrections of personal data.
INEC announced that in-person registration will commence on August 25, 2025, at all 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices nationwide. The exercise will later be extended to additional designated centers, depending on security assessments and logistical considerations.
The Commission emphasized that the CVR is open to all eligible Nigerians aged 18 and above, particularly first-time voters, while warning against multiple registrations, which attract legal penalties.
INEC encouraged citizens to seize the opportunity, stressing that voter registration is vital for inclusive participation in Nigeria’s democratic process. The CVR will run for several months, after which a preliminary register of voters will be published for public scrutiny before the final list of eligible voters is released for the 2027 elections.
