The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) resit, conducted for candidates affected by technical glitches at select centres. The results revealed that 99 percent of the candidates scored below 200, with a staggering (21,082 out of 336,845) failing to show up for the rescheduled exam.

In a statement issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board expressed concern over the low turnout and poor performance but did not disclose the reasons behind the high absenteeism.

Despite this, JAMB has extended a mop-up opportunity for absentee candidates and others who missed the initial UTME, offering them a final chance to take the exam.

According to JAMB, the performance outcomes are consistent with patterns observed over the last 12 years, where results have ranged from 11 percent pass rates in 2013 to 34 percent in 2016. The Board emphasized that while disappointing, the results underscore persistent irregularities linked to candidates and some CBT centre operators.

Approval Process and Expert Review

The results were released following a meeting of JAMB’s Chief External Examiners (CEEs) nationwide. A sub-committee, led by the Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University, Prof. Olufemi Peters, reviewed the outcome and tasked psychometric expert Prof. Boniface Nworgu to validate the results prior to release.

Resolution on Withheld and Misconduct Cases

As part of its “healing process,” JAMB announced that the results of underaged candidates who had signed pre-exam undertakings but failed to meet admission standards would be released—though not considered for admission. Also released were the results of candidates found engaging in “WhatsApp runs” and other misconducts, described by JAMB as a “one-time waiver” rather than endorsement of such practices.

Candidates were warned against joining antisocial or fraudulent online groups that promote cheating.

No High Scorers in Cancelled UTME Sessions

JAMB clarified that there were no high scorers among the cancelled UTME sessions in five South-East states and Lagos, contrary to public speculation. Only a few candidates reached scores above 217, while 99 percent scored below 200.

The Board dismissed false claims, including a viral post by one Mr. Olisa Gabriel Chukwuemeka, a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, who doctored his previous UTME result and falsely claimed a 2025 score of 326. JAMB’s investigation revealed his actual 2025 score was 180, prompting him to deactivate his account on social media after being exposed.

Final Word

JAMB stated that all results, except those under investigation or designated for the mop-up exam, have now been released. Some results previously published have also been withdrawn due to fresh revelations from security agencies implicating certain candidates in exam infractions.
