Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, publicly known as Portable, has been granted bail in the sum of N1 million by an Upper Area Court in Ilorin.
This decision comes after his arraignment on charges of criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting disturbance, and cyberstalking.
The charges were filed based on a petition by fellow artist Okunola Saheed, also known as Osupa, who alleged that Portable made defamatory remarks against him during a live Instagram broadcast on March 19, 2025.
Portable reportedly accused Osupa of jealousy and attempting to sabotage his career.
Bail Conditions
To secure his release, Portable must provide two sureties with similar financial standing:
– Surety 1: A high-ranking official (Chairman or Secretary) of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN)
– Surety 2: An individual who owns a landed property in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) with a valid Certificate of Occupancy (C of O)
Background
The controversy began when Portable allegedly made statements against Osupa, claiming he was trying to bring him down. Osupa described these statements as damaging, inciting, and an attack on his reputation, causing public tension and unrest.
Charges and Next Steps
Portable faces charges under various legal provisions, including:
– Criminal Defamation: Section 392 of the Penal Code
– Inciting Disturbance: Section 114 of the Penal Code
– Criminal Intimidation: Section 397 of the Penal Code
– Cyberstalking: Sections 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015
The court has adjourned the case, urging both parties to remain civil throughout the legal process. Portable remains in custody until he fulfills his bail conditions.
