The Lagos State House of Assembly has declared a security emergency, summoning the Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Moshood, along with three state commissioners, over the alarming spike in cult clashes and gang-related violence, particularly in Mushin and other volatile areas of the state.
The resolution was reached during Monday’s plenary session, following a motion of urgent public importance raised by Hon. Olayinka Kazeem, who represents Mushin Constituency II. Kazeem voiced grave concern over the worsening insecurity, lamenting the destructive impact on families and the growing fear that now permeates the affected neighborhoods.
He said, “My constituency has witnessed a troubling spike in cult violence and youth disturbances. I urge this House to compel security agencies to intensify their crackdown on cult activities and enforce stricter drug control measures.”
The House mandated the relevant authorities to appear before it for questioning and to present a clear strategy for curbing the rising tide of violence.
