The Lagos State Government has commenced registration of farmers for its Produce for Lagos Programme, an initiative designed to boost food production and guarantee farmers a stable market.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, announced this in a statement on Friday, explaining that the programme will enable farmers to sell directly to the state at guaranteed prices under structured agreements.
With a population of more than 24 million people, Lagos is the single largest consumer of food in Nigeria, she noted, stressing that the programme will reduce post-harvest losses, stabilise food prices, and improve farmers’ incomes.
Olusanya added that the initiative will also strengthen agricultural trade between Lagos and other states, enhance food distribution, and reinforce the state’s food supply chain.
“The programme focuses not only on production within Lagos but also on building partnerships with farmers in major food-producing states across the country,” she said.
She explained that registered farmers would be included in a central database that would enable the government to provide better planning, interventions, and support services.
Farmers are urged to register via the official link http://bit.ly/48dAWiI or through the Ministry’s platforms: Facebook (Lagos Agriculture), X (formerly Twitter) @lagosagric1, Instagram (lagosagric01), and the website www.lagosagric.com.
More details and updates, she added, will be released through these channels in the coming weeks.
