The Lagos State Government has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to motor boys, their drivers, traders, and operators of mechanic workshops under the Marine Beach Bridge to vacate the area, as part of a major environmental clean-up operation in Apapa and its surroundings. The initiative, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy’s Western Naval Command, aims to restore order and improve public sanitation.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Engr. Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, revealed this during a press briefing after the joint clean-up exercise, which extended to Mobil Road and Marine Beach on Saturday. He emphasized that the partnership with the Navy is a strategic move to combat long-standing environmental violations in the area.

The state government reiterated its stance against the sale of alcohol in parks, on roads, or in shanties, and warned that continued infractions would be met with enforcement actions. According to Rotimi-Akodu, the clean-up is an ongoing exercise that will spread across the state, calling for the cooperation of stakeholders to maintain a sustainable environment.

Rear Admiral Michael Oamen, Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command, described the effort as part of civil-military engagement, highlighting the Navy’s historical ties to Apapa and its commitment to keeping the area clean. Apapa LGA Chairman, Honourable Idowu Senbanjo, also pledged local government support for the initiative.

During the exercise, several illegal structures, including shanties, were demolished and removed by Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) trucks.
