Polling officials set for LG election in Agege...Saturday, July 12, 2025

Lagosians are trooping out today, Saturday, July 12, 2025, to elect chairmen and councillors across the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the much-anticipated local government elections.

The atmosphere across the state remains calm and peaceful as polling activities begin, with voters, party agents, and security operatives gradually gathering at various polling stations.

As part of the election security architecture, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police had earlier announced a restriction on movement between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. The directive has led to deserted roads and minimal vehicular activity throughout the state.

Early reports from different parts of Lagos show a mixed start to the election. Accreditation and voting commenced promptly in Orile Agege LCDA and areas such as Lagos Island and Surulere, where polling officials arrived on time and voting began smoothly.

However, in some parts of Alimosho, especially Akowonjo, four polling units visited had yet to receive election officials as of the time of reporting. Despite the delay, security personnel, party agents, and presumed voters were seen waiting patiently for the arrival of voting materials.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had promised a free, fair, and credible election, and stakeholders are hopeful the process will unfold smoothly as the day progresses.

Weather conditions have remained clement so far, further supporting a peaceful electoral exercise.
