The Lagos State Government has signed a landmark agreement with ZoomLion Nigeria, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group, to enhance waste management infrastructure and operations across the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who witnessed the signing, said the partnership marks a significant milestone in addressing the city’s growing waste challenges. Lagos currently generates an estimated 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, underscoring the urgent need for a more efficient and sustainable waste management system.

As part of the agreement, a new Transfer Loading Station will be constructed at the Olusosun dumpsite, which will eventually be shut down. From there, approximately 2,500 tonnes of waste will be transported daily to a new Material Recovery Facility in Ikorodu.

A similar facility will also be developed at the Solous III dumpsite in Igando, with an additional 1,500 tonnes of waste set to be redirected to a new recovery centre in Badagry.

To enhance waste collection in hard-to-reach areas across both urban and rural parts of the state, the project will introduce self-tipping tricycles.

According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the initiative is expected to create over 5,000 jobs—both directly and indirectly—while significantly improving environmental sanitation, public health, and overall livability in Lagos.

“We are taking the right steps towards cleaner streets, better health, and a more livable Lagos for all,” the Governor affirmed.
