The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a thorough investigation into bribery allegations against a police officer involved in the investigation and prosecution of six suspects accused of serious crimes.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.
According to Hundeyin, the commissioner constituted a high-level committee to probe the allegations against a Tactical Commander in the Okokomaiko area, following claims of complicity and misconduct.
“The committee is made up of senior officers, headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and includes the Officer in Charge, Legal of the Command. They have been mandated to investigate the allegations and submit their findings within a week,” the statement read.
In a bid to ensure transparency and avoid interference, the implicated commander has been transferred out of the tactical squad.
“The outcome of the investigation will certainly be made public,” Hundeyin added.
He emphasized that the Lagos State Command has zero tolerance for corruption and will not condone any compromise in the investigation or prosecution process.
“If the officer is found culpable, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken promptly to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.
The Commissioner urged the public to remain calm and continue to trust the police, assuring that any proven misconduct by an officer will be decisively addressed.
