The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a group of students allegedly from Excel College, Ejigbo, engaging in smoking and alcohol consumption within a dormitory.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, the government described the incident as disturbing and contrary to the values and behavioural standards expected in the state’s education system.
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has dispatched a monitoring and investigation team to verify the authenticity of the video, identify those involved, and assess the level of institutional oversight.
According to the statement, preliminary engagements have already begun with the school authorities, and any institution found culpable will face sanctions in line with Lagos State education policies and regulations.
“The safety, well-being, and moral values of all students remain paramount to the Lagos State Government,” Alli-Balogun said, stressing that the state remains committed to ensuring learning environments that are safe, disciplined, and conducive to both academic and moral development.
