Lagos records two million passengers on Blue Line rail

The Lagos State Government has announced that over two million passengers have been transported on the Blue Line Rail since its launch.

State-run buses also move an average of 42,000 commuters daily. Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this during a ministerial press briefing.

Transport Sector Developments
Osiyemi highlighted key developments in the transport sector, including the implementation of the Lagos State Transport Policy, launched in May 2024, which focuses on inclusivity, safety, affordability, and sustainability.

The Blue Line Rail’s Phase I has served over 2 million passengers, while Phase II is in progress. The Red Line Rail’s Phase I is operational, and Phase II is underway.

Bus Operations
Over 60 million commuters have been served by state-owned buses since 2019, with daily ridership exceeding 40,000. Plans are underway to deploy new buses with Quality Bus Corridors under construction. The Abule Egba Bus Terminal has been commissioned.

Water Transport
Fifteen locally-built Omibus Ferries have been launched, and the Ijegun Egba Terminal is operational. Over 280,000 passengers have used ferry services in the past year.

Road Infrastructure
Forty-nine junction improvement projects have been completed, and solar-powered Traffic Signal Lights, road markings, and parking slots have been provided. Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras have detected over 470,000 traffic violations.
