The Lagos State Government has sealed Grace Garden Event Place in Lekki and arrested two suspects for illegally burning waste on its premises.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Tuesday, noting that the enforcement followed a late-night operation by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
According to him, the suspects — Dominic Uja (25, from Benue State) and Barry Macaulay (52, from Côte d’Ivoire) — were apprehended on Monday night while burning refuse at the event centre on Bisola Durosinmi-Etti Drive, Lekki.
Wahab said the facility will remain sealed until further notice, stressing that offenders will be prosecuted in line with Lagos environmental laws.
He also urged residents and business owners to shun illegal waste disposal methods, warning that the government will not hesitate to sanction violators.
