Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has signaled interest in higher political office, admitting he may be eyeing the governorship.
Obasa, who recently survived a political storm that briefly cost him the speakership, made the disclosure in an interview with Television Continental on Thursday.
The lawmaker recalled that in an earlier interview with the station seven years ago, he had suggested that his political future could lead to the Senate or the governorship.
Clarifying his stance, Obasa stressed that while every politician harbours ambition, the final decision rests with the party leadership.
“Now that we are talking about politics, you have to be a member of a political party and if you are a member of a political party, you have to believe in the leadership of the party,” he said.
According to him, progression in politics is shaped by consultation, party structures, and collective decisions of leaders, not individual desires.
However, he did not rule out the possibility of running for governor. Asked if he would consider another four years in the Assembly, Obasa replied: “Not really.”
