Lagos spends ₦1.5bn to sponsor 56,134 students for WASSCE

The Lagos State Government has fully sponsored the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for 56,134 secondary school students at a cost of N1.5 billion. Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, disclosed this at a ministerial press briefing.

Education Initiatives
The government has also transferred 17,575 students into Junior Secondary School II and Senior Secondary School I. Additionally, 4,763 candidates were offered provisional admission into model colleges/upgraded secondary schools after a rigorous selection process.

Technical and Vocational Education
The Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board has established over 600 partnerships with local and international organizations, creating development and employment opportunities for youths. This has enabled 75% of graduates to secure industry jobs.

Project Zero
The government’s Project Zero initiative has re-engaged over 300,000 out-of-school children, kitted and enrolled them into public schools. Plans are also underway to construct a vocational school and an inclusive center at the Tolu Schools Complex.
